Autumn in Japan: A Soulful Season’s First Impressions
Part 1 of 5 in our first journey though the quiet beauty of Japan’s autumn
Japan. Without exaggeration, the most anticipated—and to date, the most memorable—trip we’ve ever taken. A true dream come true.
In just two weeks, the small corner of this extraordinary country that we managed to explore only ignited our curiosity further. We left completely captivated, head over heels in love, longing to return and discover more.
Each day brought a new reason to be amazed—by the unfathomable beauty, the seamless blend of old and new, the deep respect people show for their environment and one another, the quiet efficiencies both large and small, and the cleanliness unlike anywhere else in the world.
Even in the busiest places, we found moments of peace and stillness. In Tokyo, the sprawling metropolis, the countless shrines and temples radiated an almost otherworldly calm. At night, the streets came alive with light and movement, yet never felt chaotic or overwhelming.
Wandering off the beaten path always rewarded us with unforgettable experiences: from the sunlit beaches of Kamakura with exclusive views of Mt. Fuji, to the awe-inspiring nighttime visit to Fushimi Inari Shrine, to the impromptu visit to Osaka that became a highlight of the trip.
Even in the heart of one of the world’s largest cities, we were never far from birdsong, the vibrant colours of autumn, tranquil resting places, and heartwarming, soul-nourishing food.
This small country holds an unbelievable variety in every shape and form. Even a lifetime would not be enough to fully discover or appreciate all it has to offer.
And so, it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that being in Japan felt like coming home. We cherished every single moment.
Leaving wasn’t a goodbye, but a heartfelt “See you soon.”
In the next parts of this series, we’ll take you through the cities that made this journey so unforgettable — Tokyo, Kamakura, Kyoto, and Osaka — sharing the quiet moments and vibrant scenes that now weave themselves into our creative work. We’d love for you to come along.
