Peak Summer: An Introduction
Craft of Meaning - Design led studio, surface patterns, photography, bespoke art, storytelling
Having lived in many countries, I often found myself longing to be elsewhere—another climate, another region, another culture—especially when it came to holidays. But perhaps there is just as much wonder to be found right where we already are.
A few years ago we made an intentional decision to explore more of the country we now call home—the United Kingdom—and it hasn’t disappointed. The lakes may not be as famous as those of Switzerland, nor the mountains as high as the Alps, yet this gentle landscape leaves our lives richer every time we step into it.
This summer we spent a week in the Peak District, a place of stitched-green fields, stone farmhouses and ancient halls, fluffy sheep scattered across the hills, and above all—the quiet. A contrast so sharp to the constant noise of London. We woke to birdsong, to sheep calling their morning greetings, to expanses that looked like blankets of woven earth and sky.
We found life pressed into every stone step, weathered walls softened by centuries of sun, rain, and wind. We saw gardens overflowing with colour and form, bursting with an almost overwhelming abundance of life, set against the calm backdrop of rolling moorland. And we stood in awe within Winnats Pass, once the floor of a tropical sea—a reminder of the vastness and marvel of the planet we inhabit.
These impressions, and the feelings they stirred, have flowed into this new collection. Our hope is to capture the equilibrium we found between the sweeping stillness of the landscape and the vibrant abundance of English gardens, and to inspire a return to the simple act of noticing—the wonder that lies close to home.
